Viewing Inside the Skin with Ultrasound Imaging

Energy is delivered while viewing the layers inside the skin on DeepSEE real-time ultrasound imaging.
It is a method that checks the structure beneath the skin together with the facial contour visible on the outside.

Delivering Ultrasound to Match Skin Depth

The transducer is the tip that delivers the ultrasound.
If facial fat is very low or elasticity has declined considerably, a tightening treatment may be recommended first.

Transducers of 1.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.5mm are selected depending on the depth at which ultrasound is delivered.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How is Ultherapy different from radiofrequency tightening treatments such as Thermage or XERF?

Ultherapy is a lifting treatment that uses focused ultrasound to deliver heat as deep as the fascial layer (SMAS) and pull it up, while Thermage and XERF are tightening treatments that firm the dermis with radiofrequency. Which layer to treat is decided based on where the sagging is, skin thickness, and the amount of facial fat.

  • Is the treatment very painful?

There may be pain during treatment. Energy is delivered while the target layer is checked with real-time ultrasound imaging, and because the level of pain varies with the area and settings, we explain it in advance during your consultation.

  • When do the results appear, and how often should I have the treatment?

Rather than immediately after treatment, results appear gradually over 2–6 months and may vary from person to person. The treatment is usually received about once a year, though this may vary with your skin condition.

  • Can I have Ultherapy even if I have little fat on my face?

If facial fat is very low or elasticity has declined considerably, a tightening treatment may be recommended first, rather than Ultherapy. Rather than applying the same approach to the whole face, we decide the treatment areas by distinguishing hollowness in the cheeks from sagging along the jawline.

  • I recently had filler or a thread lift. Can I have the treatment right away?

Please let us know during your consultation which areas have previously been treated with filler or a thread lift, and when. If the same area was treated, the treatment is performed after 2 months have passed.

  • Can I have the treatment if I am pregnant or have metal or a pacemaker in my body?

Treatment is restricted during pregnancy or if there is inflammation, a wound, or a skin condition in the treatment area. Ultrasound and radiofrequency treatments are also restricted if you have metal or a pacemaker in your body, so please be sure to tell us during your consultation.

  • Will my skin turn red or swell after treatment?

Temporary redness, warmth, and swelling may occur, and in most cases these improve within a few days. In rare cases, temporary nerve-related symptoms such as numbness may occur. Other side effects may rarely occur; we explain them in detail during your consultation before treatment.
